CARMEN GUNKEL

Carmen began her career as an in-house graphic designer after graduating from the University of Pretoria with an Honours in Information Design. It was during this time that she was exposed to the different areas within graphic design, including project and production management, marketing and client liaison.

Her interest in relationship management saw her move to a medium-sized agency called Etiket Brand Design as an account executive. It was during this time that she completed a course in Client Relationship Management through UNISA, passing with a distinction. With relationship building as a core interest, she always knew she would end up in higher education one day and made the shift in 2013 to join the Design School of Southern Africa Johannesburg as a graphic design lecturer.

One year later she was appointed as the Programme Manager for graphic design, fulfilling a national academic management role. During this time she completed a Post-Graduate Diploma in Higher Education through the Independent Institute of Education (IIE). She is a staunch supporter of lifelong learning, with a belief that leaners should be placed at the center of the learning process.
